Eirene (i-ray'-nay) means peace, a state of rest and harmony, both within and around us.
At Eirene Ranch, we believe true peace is found through a connection with God & His creation, leading to healing and wholeness for those who have suffered trauma.
Who we are
Mission:
At Eirene Ranch, our mission is simple: to help individuals who have suffered trauma find lasting peace, real rest, and wholeness. We do this through Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) activities, where participants partner with horses and mentors to rebuild trust, develop life skills, and enhance emotional fitness.
Vision:
Our vision is to be a sanctuary where people can experience true healing whether it’s veterans suffering from PTSD, individuals healing from loss, or families seeking to restore relationships. We are here to provide a place of peace.
Our Core Values
Christ-Centered
True peace and wholeness come through Jesus Christ.
John 10:10 “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Service
We serve others as Christ served us, offering our program free of charge.
Romans 5:8-9 “… but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Empathy
We create a safe, loving environment where every individual is valued.
1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.”
Growth
We help participants grow emotionally, spiritually, and relationally.
Ephesians 3:16-19 “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
Excellence
We strive for excellence in everything we do, giving our best to glorify God.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.
Meet the Founder
Karen Borrego
Our Founder, Karen Borrego, remembers having a love for and a desire to own a horse from a very young age, and she purchased her first rescue horse when she was 9-years-old with money she had saved starting at age five. Growing up her horse was her best friend, and she recounts having long one-sided conversations where her horse was the perfect confidant. He listened without judgment, and she never had to worry about him telling anyone else the things she shared. At the time she did not realize the seed that God was planting for a future ministry.
After a lifetime of enjoying her horses, Karen knew God was calling her to share the horses with others, so the search began for how to do this. On the path to founding Eirene Ranch Karen became a certified Biblically based life coach, earned certifications from Revelation Wellness for fitness coaching and outdoor leadership. It was during training in the RevWild Outdoor Leadership program through Revelation Wellness and the 10:10 Life Initiative with Church of Eleven 22 that God put the pieces together. Horses are the tool to bring people in to find healing through Jesus.
John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Trauma has taken so much life from people, and Jesus wants to give abundant life back. We are praying that Eirene Ranch will be a place for many to come and find peace, rest, and healing through spending time outside in God’s creation with one of his magnificent creations, the horse.
Meet the Horses
-
Sarah
Sarah was born in 2002 and is a registered American Paint Horse. She came to be part of the Borrego family as a yearling. Karen was blessed to travel the country showing Sarah at the Paint shows for several years. Sarah has a sweet temperament and loves people and all other animals. She especially enjoys getting back and belly rubs from anyone who will spend time with her.
-
Katie
Katie was born at the Borrego home in Punta Gorda in 2013. She loves people and does not realize her size or know the meaning of personal space. She knows what she likes and does not like, and she is happy to let you know, too! Karen was not sure if Katie would enjoy EAL work, but she has really taken to it, and is making a difference in the lives of the participants who interact with her.
